Cate Madigan thinks she has everything under control–she’s renting a room from a drag queen on the cheap and tending bar so she has time to earn her degree. Her Irish Catholic family thinks she should be more focused on finding a husband–and their options for her border on the hysterical. At a family dinner complete with toe-headed twin nieces willing to say anything, her mother sets her up with Pugg, a man who refers to himself in the third person.
Cate takes a liking to a handsome customer at the bar, enlisting his help in trying to discourage the determined Pugg. Kellen is more than happy to oblige because he is there to try and get into the condo Cate shares with the drag queen! Kellen is an investigator who suspects the cross dresser is a thief and he is after proof. Cate tries to keep her distance from Kellen, but when her vacationing roommate has a dog delivered, she has no choice but to accept his help with the bull mastiff names Beast because she has no idea what to do with a dog. Cate quickly falls for both Kellen and the dog, though the mystery of just how her roommate affords his lifestyle is becoming more and more scandalous.
The characters are over the top, the story winds through sharp turns that corner on two wheels, and one person returns from the dead. The humor, the dialogue, and the dog, combine to make this a fun, fast paced, delightful read. A perfect vacation from reality.
