When angry villagers threaten the life of Elsbeth Weaver’s beloved grandfather because they believe he is responsible for a dragon’s predatory acts, she has to stop them. Ireni, an elder of the village suggests that she confront the hungry dragon with her fiddle, hoping the music will soothe the beast into striking a peaceful bargain with the folk of Byderside.
When the dragon, actually a more potent wyvern, hears her music, he is pleased enough to agree to a deal with the village. He also demands that she come back and play for him for three more weeks. Elsbeth assents, brings her good tidings back to Byderside, then returns. It is strange coincidence that the dragon carries the same name as the bard who she once loved but had to let go years before.
Elsbeth soon learns there is much more to Alaric the wyvern than she could have ever believed. He is a creature worthy of love, with intelligence and feelings that call to her. She is able to see past her fears and find the beauty in the beast.
A lyric and flowing story that stirs both heart and passion, Wyvern is romantic fantasy at its best. The story runs the emotional gamut, bringing the reader from a sense of desperation to the glory of a love that weathers time, separation, and the threat of destruction. Ms. Draven is a talented storyteller who creates believable characters in an enchanting fantasy setting. The heat is hot enough to light a fire in the reader’s mind, while the story sets their imaginations free.
