Jules Gerard is one of the Guardians of the Night, vampires who give up increased powers, both physical and psychic by not feeding on humans. They help track down the killer vampires in Philadelphia, protecting the human population.
Jules has a temper though, especially when it comes to the vamp that made him. He thinks that the nasty vamp is responsible for a series of killings in Baltimore. When the Guardians leader refuses to send the group to help, Jules decides to head out on his own.
Carolyn Mathers, the human fiancée of another Guardian asks her friend and ex-colleague, Hannah Moore to watch over him. Jules is at first angry about being followed by the P.I., but ultimately accepts her help…and his attraction to Hannah. They get into a lot of trouble in Baltimore and uncover many secrets related to Jules’ making, and the past of the Guardian’s leader Eli.
I did not know this was the second in a series, but Ms. Black made it easy to follow for those who haven’t read the first one, Watchers in the Night. This author has done a great job on world building and characterization for her series and I definitely plan on coming back to find out what happens next!4 Kisses
