A Paranormal Romance
After opening a psychiatric practice, Elaine realized she needed a lot of money to pay her overdue bills. So, when a patient requested a house call, she accepted. His name was Seth Overkill, and he had an almost incapacitating fear of germs. Within minutes, she thought she had Seth pegged. That was until she learned he believed himself to be a vampire. He needed a nice long stay in a padded hospital room, not her.
Elaine was not what he expected. She was his Ayudante, his protector, his helper. But how could she know nothing about her past? For generations, her family has protected him and in return, he protected them from any threat from the underworld. When he lost his wife, his life started to disintegrate. Over they years, his phobias only grew worse. Because of his fear of germs, he could no longer feed. The longer he went without food, the weaker he became. Without his control, the things that went bump in the night have started to bump back. When the dead started to walk, he knew he needed Elaine's help to overcome his fear. If he lost his fragile control, it could not only cost them their lives but plunge the world into chaos.
I love the idea of a neurotic vampire. The interplay between the doctor and patient captured my attention and forced me to read further. As their lives became intermingled, things start to heat up for both of them. These characters make you care – they make you want to find out what would happen to them. How they confront their fears and what they learn about each other and themselves make this story a fascinating read. Though the beginning did not open on solid footing, it is worth the time to read further. The plot did jump in some places. It made the pacing a bit rough and caused the tension to falter at some points. Overall, the unique story and the great characters pulled this book through and made Revamped worth reading.
