Romance novelist Clare Wingate is having an awful day. As if it wasn't bad enough that her best friend has forced her to wear a pouffy pink bridesmaid dress and ugly dyed-to-match heels, but when she goes home to check on her supposedly sick fiancé, it turns out that rather than being in bed, he's in the closet…literally. With the Sears repairman. After drowning her sorrows at the hotel bar, after the reception, she winds up in bed, naked, with her childhood crush.
Journalist Sebastian Vaughan almost didn't recognize Clare when he saw her tossing back the shots. The Clare Wingate he remembers was a nerdy little good girl wearing frilly party dresses that she could never get dirty. But good girls grow up, and even if they're still good girls, sometimes you can tell they're dying to be bad girls. Hey, she writes super steamy romance novels, right?
After some wonderful sexual tension, Ms. Gibson's story goes downhill long before the two agree to become friends-with-benefits. Although the premise had promise, the overabundance of “telling” results in a too-long story in which the reader already knows exactly how it will end.
