Time-travel romantic suspense e-book

Emma McDaniel’s husband is killed on a business trip to London during World War II. On route to Washington to pick up his body, Emma’s peaceful flight turns eventful when a strange storm appears in the sky. Emma is knocked unconscious by the turbulence and awakens on a very different airplane, surrounded by strangely-dressed people and in the arms of a handsome gentleman named Tom Wells.

Tom surmises that Emma really believes she’s living in 1944. This intrigues Tom, and he offers to take her back to his home in Chicago. Realizing that she has indeed time-shifted to 2006 and having no where else to go, she accepts his hospitality. Once there, she finds that Tom has more than just a passing interest in the World War II era. He has a whole room filled with memorabilia, including a pilot’s uniform that smells suspiciously like Tom’s aftershave.

Under Tom‘s tutelage, Emma is introduced to 21st century life. Tom secures a false identity for her and teaches her how to drive updated automobiles and use a computer. While learning to use the internet, Emma decides to look up obituaries for 1944 and is puzzled when she doesn’t find her husband’s name. She’s even more curious when she looks up strange phenomena and finds an article about the disappearance of a plane. It’s the same article that Tom had tucked away in a drawer in his “museum room.”

In spite of being warned by his ex-wife that Tom has too many secrets, Emma falls in love with him. Her bliss is short-lived when she finds her life endangered by neo-Nazis who want the secret blueprints to the time machine that transported Emma into the future. As the plot thickens, a shocked Emma learns that her deceased husband was involved in the machine’s construction. She also learns that the man she’s given her heart to has more in common with her than she imagined.

Hearts Flight has an intriguing plot that builds to a satisfying conclusion. Emma and Tom are both interesting characters, though Tom is much more complex. It was refreshing to read a sensual romance between two middle-aged characters. I also enjoyed the octogenarian character, who still possesses of his mental faculties and in the end, plays the hero, as well.
