Contemporary Romance

Former model, Olivia “Liv” Bell owns and operates her own vineyard in Minnesota with monies she’s saved from investing wisely. World-renowned chef Jake Chambers wants a break from the busy, hectic life he lives in California, highlighted by two restaurants in L.A. and San Francisco. He buys a restaurant in Minnesota he’s had his eye on as a change of pace from his friend Chaz. Chaz has been looking to open a restaurant in Saint Barts so it works out perfectly. Minnesota isn’t on Jake’s list of prime retirement or reality spots but the fact that he has spent summers there visiting his aunt makes it ideal for now.

Meanwhile, Liv is making a delivery to what used to be Chaz’s restaurant, which he sold to Jake. Jake has his own thoughts of Minnesota wine, none of them favorable, but can’t deny his intense sexual attraction to Liv. The sparks between them are inextinguishable from moment one. They intend to just have a one-night stand in order to squelch the fire but that only flames it more.

Also, the plotline of soap opera star Janie Tabor, one of Liv’s friends, who is on the run with her three year old son, and Roman Novak the private investigator her soon-to-be ex-husband hired to get their son back, is well done and doesn’t overshadow Liv and Jake’s story.

I was really excited about reading this book but it started off slow and never really grabbed my attention. I did finish the book but was disappointed that the characters weren’t more developed. The storyline held a lot of promise and has a wonderful premise but didn’t fully play out as I’d hoped. There was a lot of sex and it was erotic but lacked the passion and intimacy that’s usually found in erotic romance.
