Paranormal Romance

In this sequel to her book Best Laid Plans, Ms. O'Day-Flannery reintroduces us to The Yellow Brick Road Gang, a group of metaphysical seekers and mature girlfriends, that share the joy as well as the sadness of life's road together.

Isabelle, the oldest member of the gang, feels stagnated and worn, as she approaches the dreaded five-oh. The great love of her life is gone, and as each year passes, she believes she'll never feel that kind of love again. The gang tells her she needs to get out more, and convinces her to speak at a conference. There she meets a handsome younger man, Joshua. He convinces her to let go of her fears and re-embrace life.

She senses there is something special about Joshua, more than his charm, intellect, and incredibly gorgeous form. But when she finds out what it is, will she be ready to accept what he has to offer?

Twice In A Lifetime hits home with its positive message about growing and thriving even as we face middle age. My only regret is that at times the lines blurred, and the story became a bit heavy-handed, bordering on preachy. A few of the threads seemed to diverge onto unfortunate and unrelated areas that, in my opinion weakened the overall import of the story.

The first book in this series had a vibe, an essence that I found lacking in this sequel. I hope that any subsequent books in this series revisit what made Best Laid Plans so exceptional.
