A Historical Romance E-Book

Five women, and five tales of love around the Great Lakes.

In the 1820's, Octavia travels from England to Lake Ontario with her father as one last vacation before marriage. When her father is killed, she finds herself dependent on—and falling for—a Seneca warrior.

Her daughter, Silver Grass, heads to the Chippewa land near Lake Superior to escape the white man's attack of her native Seneca people. Living with her great-grandmother, she struggles against her attraction to copper miner Olav Johanson.

Elma, the older daughter of Silver Grass and raised near Lake Erie by her father and stepmother, agrees to aid the Union cause by spying on the Confederate prisoners. However, one prisoner captures her heart and affections.

Marta, the younger daughter of Silver Grass, leaves home to aid a logging camp cook near Lake Michigan. When the son of the wealthy Easterner who owns the camp starts to woo her, she resists, as money differences and her Native American heritage keep them apart.

Henrietta, Marta's daughter, longs to become captain on a Great Lakes boat. To reach her goal, however, she fears she must give up Garth, the one man who stirs love within her.

I found myself caught up in the lives of the characters. The storyline flows smoothly from one woman to the next, showing generations of women around the Great Lakes, but each woman deals with life and love problems in her own particular way. I felt the broken English spoken by several main characters was a bit stereotypical, and some of the story plot seemed a little predictable, but overall, I liked the narratives of each story line. I felt this novel was a pleasant read.
